Philosophy & Values
Jason's work in trauma-informed practice and personal well-being is grounded in the philosophies of restorative justice and wholistic wellness. The literature reflects the importance of social support-networks in both personal and professional environments in the prevention or reduction of negative outcomes associated with trauma-support work. Restorative practices center human connection and the importance of community. Additionally, being a professional helper may impact more than an individual's physical or mental health, therefore Jason believes in addressing multiple dimensions of well-being including the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational, and environmental aspects of life.
Jason is committed to values-based leadership, and strives to live his values through his scholarship, practice, and collaborative efforts. To that end, he centers the following values in his work:
Jason is committed to values-based leadership, and strives to live his values through his scholarship, practice, and collaborative efforts. To that end, he centers the following values in his work:
- Service. Simply put, Jason believes in helping others and the power of caring. He entered the field of higher education with a passion to be of service to others, and it is this value that drives all of his professional and personal endeavors.
- Justice & Equity. Jason understands the individual and structural biases and systems of oppression that exist in our society. He believes in the equitable treatment of others and understands that each individual is unique and deserves the resources and assistance they need based on their particular needs. Moreover, the trauma of racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and ableism impact all areas of the educational environment and must be addressed by centering trauma-informed approaches to promote healing and progress.
- Community. Jason believes in the power of community. Individually, we can do great things, but only through community can we achieve the impossible.
- Creativity. Jason values discovery, the synthesis of new outcomes from existing ideas, and the beauty of 'lightbulb' moments that spark innovation.
- Responsibility. Jason is personally invested in his commitments, and takes ownership of those commitments. Jason's sense of responsibility keeps him accountable and pushes him to do good work with integrity.
